1. Introduction

The Teso Elites Development Association (TEDA) is a community-focused development association committed to mobilizing and connecting individuals, professionals, organizations, and development partners to contribute to the sustainable development of the Teso and Bukedi sub-region.

TEDA welcomes individuals and organizations that share its vision, values, and commitment to youth empowerment, education, skills development, entrepreneurship, agriculture, health, civic participation, environmental sustainability, and community development.

This document provides guidance on membership eligibility, membership categories, rights, responsibilities, fees, and conditions of membership.

By applying for membership, an applicant confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to comply with TEDA’s Constitution, policies, code of conduct, and other applicable rules.

2. Membership Eligibility

Membership of TEDA shall be open to individuals and organizations that meet the requirements of the relevant membership category and demonstrate a genuine interest in contributing to the development of the Teso sub-region.

Applicants should:

  • Support TEDA’s vision, mission, objectives, and values.
  • Demonstrate an interest in community and regional development.
  • Be willing to participate in TEDA activities and initiatives.
  • Respect TEDA’s Constitution, leadership structures, policies, and code of conduct.
  • Provide accurate information during the membership registration process.
  • Fulfil the applicable membership requirements and subscription obligations.

Membership approval shall be subject to verification and acceptance in accordance with TEDA’s established procedures.

 3. Membership Categories

TEDA shall have the following membership categories:

A. Student & Youth Membership

 Eligibility

This category is open to:

  • Students in secondary schools, universities, colleges, and other tertiary institutions.
  • All people are determined by TEDA’s membership policy.
  • Young people from, living in, or having a genuine connection to the Teso and Bukedi sub-region or those with interest in contributing the development of Teso and Bukedi sub region 

Purpose

The category is designed to promote:

  • Youth leadership and participation.
  • Mentorship and career development.
  • Skills development.
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Civic engagement.
  • Participation in TEDA youth programs and community initiatives.

Annual Membership Fee

UGX 10,000/=

 B. Ordinary / Professional Membership

 Eligibility

This category is open to:

  • Professionals and graduates.
  • Employees in the public or private sector.
  • Entrepreneurs and business owners.
  • Researchers, academics, and technical professionals.
  • Community leaders and other individuals from, residing in, or connected to the Teso sub-region who support TEDA’s objectives.

 Purpose

Professional members may participate in:

  • TEDA programs and community development initiatives.
  • Professional networking and mentorship.
  • Research and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Leadership and capacity-building programs.
  • General Assembly activities in accordance with TEDA’s Constitution.

 Annual Membership Fee

UGX 50,000/=

 C. Community-Based Organizations & Local Groups

 Eligibility

This category is open to organized groups operating within or serving communities in the Teso sub-region, including:

  • Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
  • Youth groups and associations.
  • Women’s groups.
  • Farmer associations.
  • Savings and credit groups/SACCOs.
  • Cooperatives.
  • Community development groups.
  • Other recognized grassroots organizations.

Purpose

Organizational members may participate in TEDA’s:

  • Community outreach programs.
  • Agricultural and livelihood initiatives.
  • Vocational and skills development programs.
  • Youth empowerment activities.
  • Community dialogues and forums.
  • Partnership and capacity-building opportunities.

 Annual Membership Fee

UGX 100,000/=

D. Corporate & Institutional Associate Membership

Eligibility

This category is open to:

  • Companies and businesses.
  • Non-governmental organizations.
  • Development organizations.
  • Private institutions.
  • Professional institutions.
  • Foundations and other organizations interested in supporting community development in the Teso sub-region.

 Purpose

Corporate and institutional members may engage with TEDA through:

  • Strategic partnerships.
  • Corporate social responsibility initiatives.
  • Community development projects.
  • Skills and entrepreneurship programs.
  • Research and knowledge partnerships.
  • Regional forums and development events.
  • Resource mobilization and program support.

Annual Membership Fee

UGX 300,000/=

 4. General Conditions of Membership

All TEDA members shall be required to:

4.1 Respect TEDA’s Constitution

Members shall comply with the TEDA Constitution, policies, resolutions, regulations, and legitimate decisions of the Association.

4.2 Uphold the Values of TEDA

Members shall demonstrate integrity, respect, accountability, inclusiveness, professionalism, and commitment to community development.

4.3 Non-Partisanship

TEDA is a non-partisan development association.

Members shall not use TEDA’s name, platform, resources, meetings, social media platforms, or activities to:

  • Campaign for political parties or candidates.
  • Promote partisan political interests.
  • Promote sectarianism, discrimination, hatred, or division.
  • Misrepresent TEDA’s official position.

This provision does not prevent members from exercising their individual civic and constitutional rights outside TEDA activities.

4.4 Active Participation

Members are encouraged to actively contribute to TEDA through:

  • Volunteering.
  • Community mobilization.
  • Knowledge and skills sharing.
  • Mentorship.
  • Participation in TEDA programs.
  • Supporting community initiatives.
  • Partnerships and resource mobilization.

4.5 Financial Obligations

Members shall pay the applicable annual membership subscription fee.

Membership shall become active upon:

  1. Completion of the membership registration process; and
  2. Payment of the applicable membership fee; and
  3. Confirmation/approval of membership by TEDA where applicable.

Membership fees shall be used to support TEDA’s programs, operations, community initiatives, and administrative requirements.

Membership fees are non-refundable, except where otherwise determined by TEDA in accordance with its policies.

5. Rights and Benefits of Members

Subject to their membership category and TEDA’s Constitution, members may benefit from:

5.1 Networking

Opportunities to connect with:

  • Professionals.
  • Entrepreneurs.
  • Community leaders.
  • Researchers.
  • Development partners.
  • Youth leaders.
  • Other members of the Teso community.

 5.2 Capacity Building

Members may access or participate in:

  • Training workshops.
  • Vocational and technical skills programs.
  • Entrepreneurship and business development initiatives.
  • Leadership and mentorship programs.
  • Research and knowledge-sharing activities.

 5.3 Community Engagement

Members may participate in TEDA community initiatives in areas including:

  • Education.
  • Youth empowerment.
  • Health.
  • Agriculture.
  • Entrepreneurship.
  • Environment and climate action.
  • Civic education.
  • Skills development.

 5.4 Participation in TEDA Activities

Members may be invited to participate in:

  • TEDA forums.
  • Conferences and dialogues.
  • Community outreach activities.
  • Networking events.
  • Volunteer activities.
  • Regional development initiatives.

 5.5 Leadership and Governance Participation

Eligible members may participate in TEDA’s governance structures, elections, General Assembly activities, committees, and other leadership opportunities in accordance with the TEDA Constitution and applicable membership requirements.

 6. Member Responsibilities

Every member shall:

  • Protect the reputation and integrity of TEDA.
  • Provide truthful and accurate information.
  • Respect fellow members and community stakeholders.
  • Avoid discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or abusive conduct.
  • Use TEDA resources responsibly.
  • Avoid unauthorized representation of TEDA.
  • Keep confidential information obtained through TEDA activities confidential.
  • Promote peaceful, inclusive, and constructive community engagement.
  • Contribute to TEDA’s mission and objectives where reasonably possible.

 7. Use of TEDA Name and Brand

No member shall use the TEDA name, logo, letterhead, social media platforms, official communication channels, or other organizational identity for personal, commercial, political, or unauthorized purposes without prior approval from the appropriate TEDA authority.

Members representing TEDA at external events or engagements must have appropriate authorization.

 8. Membership Renewal

Membership shall be renewed annually upon payment of the applicable annual membership subscription and fulfilment of any renewal requirements established by TEDA.

TEDA may periodically review membership records to maintain an accurate and up-to-date membership register.

 9. Suspension or Termination of Membership

TEDA reserves the right, in accordance with its Constitution and applicable procedures, to suspend or terminate membership where a member:

  • Seriously violates TEDA’s Constitution or policies.
  • Engages in conduct that brings TEDA into serious disrepute.
  • Misuses TEDA resources, name, or identity.
  • Provides fraudulent or materially misleading information.
  • Engages in harassment, discrimination, violence, or other serious misconduct.
  • Uses TEDA for unauthorized political, commercial, or personal purposes.
  • Fails to meet applicable membership obligations.

Where appropriate, the member shall be given an opportunity to respond to allegations before disciplinary action is taken, in accordance with TEDA’s established procedures.

10. Membership Application Declaration

By submitting a TEDA membership application, the applicant confirms that:

12. Important Notice

Membership in TEDA represents a commitment to community service, responsible leadership, collaboration, and sustainable development.

All members are expected to contribute positively to TEDA and the wider Teso community while respecting the diversity, dignity, rights, and aspirations of all people.
