Role Description

The Programme Associate – Heritage & Culture will serve as a cultural custodian responsible for preserving, documenting, promoting, and strategically leveraging the rich heritage of the Iteso and Bukedi communities as tools for identity, unity, education, tourism, and youth economic empowerment.

Key Deliverables & Responsibilities

  • Cultural Preservation Projects: Develop initiatives to document oral histories, traditional knowledge, indigenous values, cultural practices, stories, and community heritage.
  • Creative Economy Activation: Connect cultural arts, traditional crafts, music, storytelling, fashion, and other creative industries to youth entrepreneurship and tourism opportunities.
  • Identity & Leadership Mentorship: Integrate cultural history, identity, values, and community responsibility into TEDA’s youth leadership and mentorship programs.
  • Cultural Documentation: Support the creation of digital and physical archives documenting important aspects of Teso and Bukedi heritage.
  • Cross-Cultural Dialogues: Organize platforms that promote cultural appreciation, intergenerational dialogue, unity, and constructive discussion of cultural practices that may conflict with contemporary human rights principles.
  • Cultural Tourism Development: Identify opportunities for communities and young people to benefit economically from cultural heritage and tourism.
  • Partnership Development: Build relationships with cultural institutions, elders, researchers, artists, creative entrepreneurs, tourism actors, and relevant government agencies.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL PROGRAMME ASSOCIATES

All Programme Associates are expected to:

  • Develop annual and quarterly activity plans for their respective thematic areas.
  • Identify strategic partners and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Contribute to concept notes, proposals, fundraising initiatives, and project development.
  • Coordinate implementation of approved activities within their thematic areas.
  • Maintain proper documentation of activities, beneficiaries, partnerships, and results.
  • Contribute to TEDA’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability, learning, and reporting systems.
  • Produce regular progress reports highlighting achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations.
  • Represent TEDA professionally when engaging partners, communities, institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Promote safeguarding, accountability, inclusion, and ethical standards in all TEDA activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other Programme Associates, District Representatives, Brand Ambassadors, and TEDA leadership.

Important: These are volunteer positions. TEDA is looking for individuals who are passionate about community transformation, willing to contribute their expertise, and committed to delivering measurable results.
