On 7 August 2026, the chambers of the Parliament of Uganda became a platform for young people from across the country to debate the issues shaping their generation.
During the 2nd Sitting of the 8th National Youth Parliament, held under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” young leaders discussed issues including employment, governance, health, road safety and climate action.
Representing young people from Pallisa and the wider Bukedi and Teso sub-regions, TEDA’s Lead, Fraide Solomon, used the platform to draw attention to the growing climate-related vulnerabilities affecting communities in Eastern Uganda.
His message was clear: climate resilience must go beyond emergency response.
Across communities in Eastern Uganda, climate-related shocks can affect homes, schools, agriculture, food security, livelihoods and the wellbeing of families. For young people whose livelihoods depend heavily on agriculture and natural resources, building resilience is particularly important.
At TEDA, we believe that the conversation must now move from awareness to community-level action.
Our focus includes promoting:
🌱 Climate-smart agriculture and locally appropriate adaptation practices.
💚 Green youth enterprises that create economic opportunities while responding to environmental challenges.
🌳 Environmental restoration and tree-planting initiatives led by communities and young people.
🤝 Grassroots partnerships that connect youth organizations, communities, government, schools and development partners around practical climate solutions.
The National Youth Parliament provided an important platform for young people to speak, deliberate and contribute to policy conversations. The challenge now is to ensure that these conversations continue beyond the parliamentary floor and reach the communities where climate impacts are being experienced every day.
For TEDA, youth participation is not only about having a voice in policy spaces. It is also about equipping young people to become part of the solution in their own communities.
The floor has been taken.
The conversation has begun.
Now, the work continues in our communities. 🌍
